Results Matter...
A grant of $50,000 from United Way is being used to address issues of juvenile truancy and educational neglect. This grant was matched by $50,000 in State funds. 120 families received help to keep their children on a path to success, out of trouble and ultimately out of juvenile detention (at a cost of $80,000/a year per child).

United Way of Genesee County’s Mission:
- Uniting People
- Developing Resources
- Creating Solutions
United Way of Genesee County is dedicated to improving the health and social well being of our community.

Our Unique Role
Many agencies work to address specific problems in Genesee County, but United Way has held a unique role for 80 years as the umbrella agency focusing on a broad range of community issues.  United Way of Genesee County is a positive agent for change bringing together the people of the community, building on our strengths and solving our problems together.  United Way is working for long-term solutions by focusing on four focus areas:

  • Basic Needs
  • Older Adults
  • Youth Development
  • Strengthening Families

For example, consider the situation of a child who is challenged by several obstacles that inhibit school performance and healthy development.  First, the child may need a safe, supervised place to go before and after school, while their parents or caregivers are at work.  Or the child may need counseling to sort through stressful personal issues and to examine how they can direct their energy into positive activities.  In addition parents or caregivers may need a support group to effectively guide and nurture the child.  Maybe there are issues such as peer pressure or substance abuse.  Could we expect one agency or program to address all of these problems?  Of course not.  But you can count on the United Way’s partner agencies to come together with a variety of services and solutions to help this child develop and grow.  United Way strives to make the greatest impact possible. When you are under United Way’s umbrella, you are surrounded by solutions!
