Bus Pass Initiative
“You know how it feels to be without wheels”
United Way

In October 2006, the United Way Basic Needs System of Care began an initiative to raise $100,000 to purchase bus passes for the clients of participating agencies.  This is an attempt to create a solution to an unmet need as identified from conversations with the constituents.  A sub-committee formed to create and implement the plan to raise the funds and distribute the passes developed the slogan “Instill pride give your neighbor a ride”.  The initiative is designed to respond to the critical transportation need of program participants and to achieve the following goals:

  • Raise awareness of the significant unmet need for transportation
  • Develop a marketing plan to raise $100,000 from corporations and individuals to address need
  • Distribute bus passes to participating agencies in an equitable manner

The Resource Center, MTA and CBS Outdoor are key initiative partners, providing support to help achieve the goals.  United Way serves as the fiduciary, assuring donors a 100% return on the donation-all funds will be used to purchase bus passes.  The generous support from the following community sponsors/donors have helped to keep the initiative “rolling along”:  ELGA Credit Union, Citizens/Republic Bank, Baker College, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Bishop Trust, Plumbers Local 370, UAW Region 1-C and Kettering University Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

You can help “Instill Pride” and give your neighbor a ride by supporting the Bus Pass Initiative.  Consider making a donation today.  Checks should be made out to:
