A United Way grant of $132,000 helped support the only local program that provides in-home services for low-income, frail elderly. This program provides services valued at $800/month to assist seniors with nutrition, medicine, and daily needs. This assistance allows elderly individuals to continue living independently in their own home instead of housing them in institutions at a cost of $3,750 for Medicare/taxpayer paid housing to $6,000/month for private care.

2007 Campaign a Success!

Each year the volunteers and staff of United Way of Genesee County work to bring our community together, to raise the resources and ensure that those resources are invested wisely to improve the lives and change the future of our at-risk children, families and older adults.

The 2007 campaign was no different.  Kevin Keane, Area Manager for Consumers Energy, and 2007 Campaign Chair, announced to an audience of 200 volunteers and donors that the United Way anticipates to raise $4,291,789, which represents 4.4% over our goal.  “This total is exciting to be able to announce tonight.  Despite our economic challenges, everyone in this room have done a terrific job in getting our message out to the community to help raise the funds so desperately needed," said Keane.

Keane, along with Dan Welton, Plant Manager, GM Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center, and 2007 Campaign Vice Chair were recognized for their efforts and hard work to make this campaign a success along with the rest of the Campaign Cabinet members.

The celebration was held at the Flint Golf Club, which included a social hour before the program began.   The volunteers were able to taste an abundance of hors’doeuvres and share good conservation with each other.

Ron Butler, Executive Director, United Way of Genesee County, announced at the end of the evening that Dan Welton, Plant Manager, GM Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center, and William R. Hartman, President & Chief Executive Officer, Citizens Republic Bancorp, will head up the 2008 Campaign as Chair and Vice Chair respectively.
