Flint Comcast Rocks the UW!

Michigan took the lead early in this year’s United Way campaign, thanks to several locations that had high participation in the first week. Flint was one of those locations. By the end of the campaign, 80 percent of the staff there had pledged.

“I am so proud of the Flint Team, which continues to show tremendous support year after year for United Way,” said Kimberly Vernon, HR Manager for Comcast in Flint. “We have a great relationship with our local partners at United Way of Genesee County who show our employees the value of their donations and how much it truly helps the community in which we live.

“I’m on the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint, just one organization that benefits from United Way contributions, and I see through that experience the value of giving and what it means to organizations that need our support,” she added.

Flint TechOps led the way by ending the campaign with a 92 percent participation rate. TechOps Manager Ron Wilson attributed this high number to the fact that his staff takes serving the community very personally.

“Economic times are very hard in the Flint area and our technicians realize that,” Wilson said. “They contribute because they realize that they might need help some day and the United Way will be there for them. Our successes are a result of person-to-person interviews with each employee, as we believe the pledge process is a private affair and employees are more apt to participate when asked to pledge in a private setting.”
