United Way is Celebrating
90 Years!

United Way of Genesee County began under the aegis of the Chamber of Commerce in 1922.  The founders, John Pierce, W.S. Ballenger, G. W. Cook, Charles F. Barth,  J. E. Burroughs, L.H. Bridgman, S. S. Every hour, ten more Michiganders turn 65 years old.   According to the 2006-2008 American Community Survey, there are currently 53,075 persons aged 65 and older in Genesee County.  On January 1, 2011, nationwide, the oldest Baby Boomers will turn 65, adding 10,000 seniors to the Social Security roles.  Every day for the next 19 years it is estimated that 10,000 more will cross that threshold.

The United Way of Genesee County Older Adults System of Care has released a Prescription Drug Assistance Informational brochure.  A survey conducted in 2010 by the system of care identified the need for prescription assistance.  The brochure provides valuable information to help seniors and their caregivers make informed decisions.  For a copy, click here.
