United Way of Genesee County Joins the #GivingTuesday Movement

We know, we know. September is barely over, and we’re already talking about the approaching holidays. But #GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is important to us. And we think it should matter to you, too!

After Thanksgiving, most people find themselves grateful for the prices they snag on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After days of giving thanks and getting deals, many people also choose to give back. When #GivingTuesday first began in 2012, it was created as a kick off to the giving season at the end of each year.  The organizations that participate in the event encourage philanthropic giving through donations of both time and money. As a member of the movement, United Way of Genesee County appreciates all of your support. Here’s how you can join us on November 27, 2018 for #GivingTuesday.

Give
United Way of Genesee County's community partnerships and program support is only possible thanks to generous donations from community members and workplace giving. By giving a gift to United Way, you're supporting the health, education, financial stability and basic needs of over 85,000 residents in Genesee County, and over 5,000 in Shiawassee County. Want to support one of our partner agencies directly? Stay tuned for our agencies' holiday wishlists, and donate materials they request directly.

Advocate
Don’t have the resources to volunteer or pledge? Participate in our social campaign! There are so many ways to make #GivingTuesday more visible to the whole community, including by sharing our posts, using our hashtag #LiveUnited  or starting your own #GivingTuesday fundraiser on Facebook with United Way of Genesee County. We thank you for your support, and hope to see you on Facebook and Twitter. By advocating for us during our #GivingTuesday campaign, you're advodating for the community programs and partners we support.

Volunteer
UWGC invites you to be involved in charitable giving by donating your time! Our online connection site for volunteers and agencies can be found here, at geneseeserves.org. A single hour of a volunteer’s time is worth $24.69. Much of our work here at United Way would be impossible without our community volunteers. Over the summer, UWGC built six playgrounds for the #FlintKidsPlay movement in just three weeks, made possible only by the 600 volunteers who showed up everyday, rain or shine. Join us to make our community the best it can be by volunteering your time at any of our opportunities on Genesee Serves. Stay tuned for our special service event happening on #GivingTuesday.
