What does it mean to serve?

AmeriCorps members typically serve at a site, which may be one of several sites served by a local AmeriCorps grantee or sponsor organization. AmeriCorps members are assigned to a specific project, like a mentoring program or environmental project, and are not "interns" or "volunteers" at the organizations who can fulfill any old task like getting coffee or making copies. In AmeriCorps, you will MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The MCSC Youth Resource VISTA Initiative will positively impact communities by reaching the following project goals: 1) Develop mechanisms for youth, parents, and youth serving organizations to access resources that enhance the skill sets of youth and assist them with being successful in school and/or work. 2) Assist with developing solutions to decrease the opportunity gaps faced by youth and in particular young men and women of color. These goals will be accomplished through objectives that include: asset and resource coordination; recruiting and engaging volunteers; establishing a youth voice in the communities; promoting easier access to work and career opportunities. Michigan Community Service Commission utilizes service as a strategy to address the state's most pressing issues and empowers volunteers to strengthen communities.
