The Genesee County Opioid Abuse Prevention VISTA Program will seek to build capacity for local organizations to address the opioid epidemic, and expects to benefit approximately 2,000 students, parents, ex-offenders, and other residents with capacity building services. VISTA members will be placed at local organizations that are on the front lines of combating the epidemic, including law enforcement agencies, health care providers, nonprofits and educational institutions. 5 VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as material development, training, community engagement, data and research, and partnership development over the course of a service year. Qualified candidates will:
Have an interest in helping communities/neighborhoods/residents
Commitment to 1 year of service (12 months)
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Must be able to pass a background check
Flint-based candidates are highly encouraged to apply
$12,311 living stipend
$6,315 education award for successful completion (may be used to pay off student loans or to pay for future education for member or a close relative)
