Flint is also fortunate to have dynamic Senior Corps volunteers in Foster Grandparents, RSVP and Senior Companion Programs through the Family Service Agency of Mid Michigan and the Valley Area Agency on Aging.

Member Gatherings

In order to help members coordinate services and provide members with professional development opportunities, the National Service Accelerator hosts monthly member gatherings. 2019-2020 member gatherings are as follows:

  • September 11 - Accelerator Kick-Off and 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance - ALL DAY EVENT - Catholic Charities Center for Hope
  • October 2 - Entering Community - Flint Farmers' Market
  • November 6 - Professionalsim - The Durant
  • November 14 - Michigan's AmeriCorps Celebration - Lansing Center, Lansing, MI 
  • December 4 - Financial Literacy 
  • January 8 - ACES
  • January 20 - MLK Day of Service - Dort Federal Events Center
  • February 12 - Life After AmeriCorps Day - ALL DAY EVENT - Riverfront Conference Center
  • March 11 - AmeriCorps Week Celebration and Justice Talking Discussion
  • April 7 - National Service Recognition Day
  • April 8 - Sustainability 
  • April 17 - 18 Global Youth Service Day 
  • May 6 - Finishing Strong/Avoiding Burnout
  • May 15 - Russ Mawby Signature Service Project
  • June 3 - Accelerator Wrap-Up and Celebration 

All meetings will be held on Wednesdays 8:30 am - 10:30 am, unless otherwise noted. Accelerator meetings are required for members serving in greater Flint and Genesee County. 


Days of Service

Flint members also participate in days of service together, to show the collective power of service and volunteerism. Each year, members collaborate on 4 days of service. Click below to see Impact Reports from recent projects.

Other Member Professional Development

Through the Flint National Service Accelerator, members have the opportunity to use their service term as a launch year, helping rocket them to their next opportunity whether it be employment, education or additional service terms. The following professional development opportunities are open to currently serving AmeriCorps members in the Flint area. Take advantage of them today! 

  • Life After AmeriCorps Day 
    • 2020 Life After AmeriCorps Day will be held February 12 at the Riverfront Conference Center; more details coming soon
  • AmeriCorps Grant Writing Series
    • Members can apply to participate in one of the following grant writing series; all members must apply and be selected, as well as commit to attending every session in the series
      • October 10, 2019 - December 12, 2019; Thursdays 8:30 am - 10:30 am 
      • February 19, 2020 - April 8, 2002; Thursdays 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • Volunteer Engagement Training Series
  • Mock Interview and Resume Review 
    • March 2020, exact date(s) TBD
  • Ameri-Mentors
    • Looking for a professional mentor who can help make your year of service a success and launch you to your next step? Sign up to participate in the Ameri-Mentors program for 2019-2020. 
  • Flint Member Leadership Council
    • ​​​​​​​Provide member voice and input for the Accelerator! Talk to your supervisor or Program Manager about being nominated to the Flint Member Leadership Council. Council meets one time per month.
